About this tool

Enter a loan amount, the annual interest rate and the term to see the fixed monthly payment (EMI), the total interest you will pay and the total repaid. A year-by-year table shows how much of each year goes to principal versus interest, and the remaining balance. It works for home, car and personal loans in any currency.

How to use it

  1. Type the loan amount, annual interest rate and term.
  2. Choose years or months, and set your currency symbol.
  3. Read the monthly payment and open the yearly breakdown if you want detail.

Frequently asked questions

How is EMI calculated?

EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of monthly payments.

Does this include fees or insurance?

No. It covers principal and interest only. Processing fees, taxes and insurance are extra.

Why is so much of the early payment interest?

Interest is charged on the outstanding balance, which is largest at the start, so early payments are mostly interest.
