About this tool

Shrink a large PDF so it can be emailed or uploaded. Choose light, balanced or strong compression and optionally convert to grayscale. Pages are re-rendered as images in your browser, which works very well for scans and photos. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF file.
  2. Pick a compression level, and grayscale if you want it.
  3. Click Compress PDF, then download the smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Compression runs locally in your browser.

Why can I no longer select text?

Each page is turned into an image to reduce its size, so text becomes part of the picture. Keep your original if you need searchable text.

Why is the result sometimes larger?

PDFs that are mostly text are already small. If the result is not smaller, keep the original or use a stronger level.
