URL Encoder & Decoder

Percent-encode text for URLs or decode %20-style strings back to text.

About this tool

URLs can only contain a limited set of characters, so spaces, accents and symbols are replaced with percent codes such as %20. Encode text before placing it in a link or query string, or decode a messy encoded link to read it. Choose component mode for single values or full URL mode to keep the link structure.

How to use it

  1. Choose Component or Full URL mode.
  2. Paste your text or URL.
  3. Click Encode or Decode and copy the result.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the two modes?

Component mode also encodes / ? & = # : so it is right for a single query value. Full URL mode leaves those characters so the link keeps working.

Why does decoding fail?

A stray % that is not followed by two hex digits is invalid. Fix or remove it and try again.

Does decoding turn + into a space?

In component mode yes, because + means space in form-encoded query strings.
