Hash Generator

Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes from text.

MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security use. Use SHA-256 or stronger for anything that matters, and never hash passwords with a plain hash.

About this tool

Type or paste text and get its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes, updated as you type. Hashes are used to verify file integrity, build cache keys and compare data without storing it. Everything is computed in your browser, so your text is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Choose lowercase or uppercase hex.
  3. Copy the hash you need.

Frequently asked questions

Which hash should I use?

SHA-256 or stronger for anything security related. MD5 and SHA-1 are only fine for checksums and non-security uses.

Can a hash be reversed?

Not directly, but short or common inputs can be guessed. Never store passwords with a plain hash. Use bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2.

Why does my hash differ from another tool?

Usually trailing spaces or line endings differ. The text here is hashed exactly as typed, encoded as UTF-8.
